Heart Page
Work in Progress: fabric collage (heat transfer images, hand
embroidery, buttons on vintage handkerchief). Part of an artist's book
destined for an exhibit called "From Seneca Falls to
Philadelphia: Fourth of July 1876 and the Women of the
Centennial" by The Athenaeum of Philadelphia & Philadelphia Center for the Book (4/1
- 4/27/13).

Creepy Long Haired Girl with Doll
This cabinet card photo was actually a little boy in a dress (seemingly, a custom back then, not a comment on his sexuality). I like him better this way...

Art Journal Covers
Most of my collages are either created in, or pasted into, spiral bound sketchbooks. Here are three of the more interesting covers.

16 Ways of Looking at a Blackbird
“16 Ways of Looking at a Blackbird” is a one-of-a-kind, accordion-style collaged and hand-cut book I completed in 2012, with a title inspired by a well-known Wallace Stevens poem. The book is 9.5" x 7.5," and includes 16 bird-themed collaged images, each with an accompanying haiku. When the book is extended, the reader sees silhouettes of blackbirds, reeds, trees and branches scrolling for about 50" across the page tops. Here are a few images of the book and several of the bird collages with their related haiku poems .
This is not my room,
not my glittering
window
nor festering world.
Sir, you are wearing
a crow on your
head. Madame,
he is wearing me.
This bird is wildness.
Seemingly tame, it
whispers
false serenity.
