Work in Progress -- Muerte Prayer Cards

Collage work on vintage prayer cards, each about 2-1/2" x 4" in the style of the worshippers of Santa Muerte.  These are destined to be included in an altered book, along with vintage communion photos and perhaps some embroidered sacred heart images.

Carel Willink

Carel Willink (1900 - 1983) was a Dutch painter who painted in a Magical Realism style that he preferred to label "imaginary realism."  His paintings are beautifully rendered, surreal, and suffused with a most interesting light...so, of course, I have stolen* some of them.  Here are three collages that superimpose chromatically-colored modern dancers over backdrops of paintings by Willink.

* This probably amounts to copyright infringement, something most collagists are guilty of from time to time.  If there exist defenders of Carel Willink and his copyright in these paintings, please feel free to object and these will disappear!
