DdA Factory

In Cagliari, Italy, is a gallery called DdA Factory which features photography and other contemporary art. Each month they produce and exhibit large (20" x 30") photographic reproductions of work by artists from various countries, and among the invited works this month is one of my pieces called "Two Birds" (cut & paste collage, magazine scraps on magazine page).  DdA has a lot of beautiful work on display (see it here) and I'm honored to be a part of this month's exhibition.

Intimate Works on Paper 2014

Alfred Stieglitz opened the Intimate Gallery in Saugerties, NY, in 1925, inviting artists, poets and writers to gather and exhibit their works.  The Intimate Gallery is still in business and still exhibiting work by artists working in book arts, printmaking, photography, paper arts, drawing and mixed media.  I'm very pleased that two of my pieces ("Grand Rapids 1937," an altered book, and "It Wasn't Clear What Happened Here," collage on an old book cover) are on display at their Intimate Works on Paper 2014 exhibit.  The exhibit opens today and will run through June 22 -- it looks fantastic and I wish I could be there. The Stoddard Series

John Lawson Stoddard was a travel writer and lecturer who published a series of photo books about his world travels in the late 1800's, which became immensely popular among the travel-hungry Victorians.  A while back I bought a little photo book about the Maine seacoast on eBay, but when the package arrived in the mail, it contained a slightly dilapidated copy of one of Stoddard's books instead.  My eBay seller quickly sent the right book, and let me keep the first book as well.  So, what happens when a collagist is allowed to keep a slightly dilapidated old photo book?  A new project, of course.  Above, one of the title pages from a "Portfolio of Photographs of Famous Scenes, Cities and Paintings Prepared Under the Supervision of the Distinguished Lecturer and Traveler John L.
