“16 Ways of Looking at a Blackbird” is a one-of-a-kind, accordion-style collaged and hand-cut book I completed in 2012, with a title inspired by a well-known Wallace Stevens poem. The book is 9.5" x 7.5," and includes 16 bird-themed collaged images, each with an accompanying haiku. When the book is extended, the reader sees silhouettes of blackbirds, reeds, trees and branches scrolling for about 50" across the page tops. Here are a few images of the book and several of the bird collages with their related haiku poems .
This is not my room,
not my glittering
window
nor festering world.
Sir, you are wearing
a crow on your
head. Madame,
he is wearing me.
This bird is wildness.
Seemingly tame, it
whispers
false serenity.
WOW! This is gorgeous and grandios- the raven image on the book cover, the girl with the straitjacket looking out ofthe window with free birds in here mind! Awesome!!!!! Thanks a lot for the link!!!!!
