Muskrat Love

Her face is from a 1595 painting entitled Portrait of Antonietta Gonzalez  by Lavinia Fontana.  Antonietta (as well as her father, two sisters and other family members) had "hypertrichosis" (aka “werewolf syndrome”), a rare genetic disorder that causes an abnormal amount of hair to grow on the body, including the face.  Antonietta and her sisters became famous because of their condition, and were subject to much public scrutiny, including medical investigations and portrait sittings.
