Exhibition News from Coronaville

In this new virus era we're in, the exhibition world is on substantial hold.  Some shows are being cancelled, others are going on line, and some are on hold hoping for less social distancing.

Right now I have one collage piece (Every Atom in  Our Bodies Came From an Exploded Star) out in Woodstock, IL, waiting patiently for the delayed exhibition "Women's Works 2020 -- 33rd Annual Show" to begin sometime later in the year.

One of my books (Bird Windows) is treading water out in Ellensburg, WA, where hopefully Gallery One will be able to mount its lovely exhibit of artist's books called "between the fold" sometime later in the summer.

And down in Tacoma, WA, the Washington State History museum is closed due to COVID-19, but the Northwest Collage Society's show honoring the 2020 Centennial of Women’s Suffrage in Washington State, has just appeared online.  It includes my collage When They Finally Guaranteed Us the Vote:

Face First at BIMA

These are the last few days of a wonderful exhibit at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, in Bainbridge, WA, (Oct. 12, 2019 - February 23, 2020) entitled "Face First: Group Exhibition."  The exhibit includes work by two dozen Puget Sound area artists whose work includes portraiture and the human face, in a variety of media including painting, photography, sculpture, glass, mixed media and artist's books.  I am delighted that one of my recent books, "Great Modern Short Stories," was included in this outstanding exhibit.

A Couple Recent Collage Exhibitions

The National Collage Society recently (November 4 - December 7, 2019) mounted its Annual Juried Show in the Cummings Gallery at Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA.  I am honored that my collage "Mother" was included:

On exhibit locally, is my piece entitled "What Is." as part of Read Between the lines: NWCS and Cancer Lifeline Poets."  The collages in this exhibit were inspired by poems written by writing groups organized by Cancer Lifeline in Seattle.  My piece was inspired by a beautiful poem written by Sylvia Byrne Pollack entitled "Higher Education."

Water's Edge

The Whatcom Museum is hosting its third biennial Bellingham National 2019 Juried Art Exhibition, a lovely show entitled "Water's Edge: Landscapes for Today."  A wide variety of media are included, including Map 4 from a series of map collages I created last year:

I'm delighted to be included and urge you to drop into the Lightcatcher Building in Bellingham to take in this beautiful exhibit, which runs from February 2 - May 19, 2019.

Exhibition News

The Northwest Collage Society's summer show, called "Collage Squared," is currently on view at the Kenmore Art Gallery in City Hall, Kenmore, WA, through November 8, 2018.  All pieces are 12" x 12" square and mounted on deep wood panels with black sides.  The exhibit is lovely and the grid hanging is quite striking, well worth a visit.  I have two pieces hanging:

To Be a Man

I've been lost in a Trumpian dystopia...

Back from a summer of delightful frivolity, and I felt obligated to complete another political book.  It was hard to work on (being forced to think about the meaning of Trump for hours while I worked...) but the book is done!  Rah, rah.

''Whither" is a unique altered book, 30 page, 12"h x 9"w.  The original book was a libretto for the rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar," oddly appropriate to the subject matter.  Materials include book and magazine scraps, an American flag, tissue paper, pigmented, rubber stamped images and spray paint.  Here are the beginning pages:
