A Fresh Round of Tricollage

Three collage friends (me, Sabine Remy in Germany, and Josephine Wicherts in Holland) periodically complete a round of three-way collaborative collages, nicknamed "tricollages."  This time each of us created two similar collage starters and then circulated those to the other two for completion.  It has been fun to see the similarities and differences in each set.  Here are the results.

Josephine Wicherts (Holland), Sabine Remy (Germany) and I occasionally do a whirlwind round of Exquisite Corpse.  Each of us makes three starters (doing the top, middle or bottom of a collaged image, then "hiding" what we've done so that the next person working on the piece can ONLY see where to connect with the prior image, not the image itself).  Here are my three starters from our latest round:

The Exquisite Corpse

The Surrealists reportedly enjoyed a drawing game they called "The Exquisite Corpse," in which one artist would start a drawing and fold the paper to hide what was already drawn, pass it on to the second artist who would add to the drawing and again fold the paper to hide the newest part AND the original part of the drawing, and then pass it on to a third artist who would do the same.  When done, the paper was unfolded revealing a strange, collaborative drawing by three or four artists.  Oh, those wacky Surrealists.

During the past month or so, my little Tricollage Group (myself, Sabine Remy of Germany and Josephine Wicherts of Holland) has created a series of Exquisite Corpse-style folded collages.  We each did a "starter" with one section collaged on the background, and then folded or papered over our section and passed it on.  The three I started have just returned home to me, and here's what I found when I unfolded each of these little surprises:

Bring On the Tricollages!

In process right now are a series of three-way collaborations between myself and two collage friends:  Sabine Remy of Dusseldorf, Germany, and Josephone Wicherts of Gees, Holland.  We have each made two "starters," one with a Dada theme and the other unthemed, and now are circulating those 6 pieces among ourselves.  A week or two ago, I had three finished "tricollages" (my new name for them) on my work table and was very pleased at how well they have turned out.  See what you think...
