 For many years my lovely friend Sabine Remy (Dusseldorf, Germany) and I have collaborated on a series of collage pieces.  One starts and then sends to the other to complete. No theme, no rules, no timetable, just whatever and whenever.  We have fun, and here are our three most recent efforts:

WIP -- Collaboration

PSBA (Puget Sound Book Artists) has announced its call for an upcoming members exhibition with the theme "collaboration."  Usually I don't create specifically for an exhibition, but some ideas about collaboration are percolating around in my head, so this week I began altering a vintage book to fit that theme. It will be about different ways of collaborating...between husband and wife, with co-workers, maybe between different species, maybe famous nefarious collaborators, we'll see.

Collaborators Gotta Collaborate

 Sabine Remy, a talented collage artist living in Dusseldorf, Germany, has been one of my collaboration partners for many years now.  We may have slowed down a little (procrastinate much, Lynn?), but we recently completed our 122nd collage piece, and we continue to collaborate.  As always, one of us starts a collage, leaves it unfinished, and sends it to the other to complete.(The starter is listed first in the description, if you're curious.)

Recent Collaborations

My good friend, Sabine Remy, and I have been collaborating on collage pieces for years.  One of us makes a starter and sends it off, the other finishes and returns it.  Dusseldorf (Sabine's home) and La Conner (my home) are half-a-globe apart, but today that seems even further than usual.  I miss you, Sabine!

I Love the Little Fishies

I Love the Little Fishies is a unique altered book created in 2018 in collaboration with my good friend Sabine Remy, a German collage artist.  The book is part of an on-going project Sabine has pursued for a couple years in which she and a collaborator/friend work on two identical books, ending up with two different altered books.  She calls it the "Unequal Twins" project and you can see more of these projects and other works on Sabine's blog here.

The vintage books are all part of a German series of popular pocket-sized books called Insel-Bücherei that feature lovely decorative paper covers and include a huge array of subject matter.  This book was about fish; Sabine modified the book text into an accordion structure and added lovely collaged images and some hanging fish.  I added some more collage and then hand-cut a little rhyme across the tops of the pages:

I love the little fishies, every she and he,

there are no better playmates in the deep blue sea.

A Fresh Round of Tricollage

Three collage friends (me, Sabine Remy in Germany, and Josephine Wicherts in Holland) periodically complete a round of three-way collaborative collages, nicknamed "tricollages."  This time each of us created two similar collage starters and then circulated those to the other two for completion.  It has been fun to see the similarities and differences in each set.  Here are the results.

Josephine Wicherts (Holland), Sabine Remy (Germany) and I occasionally do a whirlwind round of Exquisite Corpse.  Each of us makes three starters (doing the top, middle or bottom of a collaged image, then "hiding" what we've done so that the next person working on the piece can ONLY see where to connect with the prior image, not the image itself).  Here are my three starters from our latest round:
