Happy, happy holidays to everyone!
See you in 2014.
In the aftermath of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT, Dick Allen, the Poet Laureate of Connecticut, kept thinking of the words “in the snow lightly falling.” Somewhat reluctantly he wrote the short poem “Solace” with the child victims of Newtown in mind, but didn't publicize it, for fear of "using" the tragedy to further his art. Eventually, however, the poem made its way to a Pulitzer prize-winning composer (William Bolcom), who was struck by the simple beauty of the poem, and set it to music.
